Trailer Training
Trailer Training With Smiles Better Tuition

Trailer Training
Did you know, that if you intend to tow a Trailer or Caravan over 750kgs, and you passed your Category B (Car) driving test on or after 01 January 1997, then you may need to pass a further driving test to obtain the Category B+E (Car and Trailer) entitlement.
We offer a wide range of training packages, for private customers and business customers alike, not only in Licence acquisition but continuous training and customer support once courses have been completed.
Driving Assessments.
We offer all potential customers a driving assessment, we will take the candidate out on a road drive for 1 hour, and at the end we can recommend a realistic time frame for the candidate to bring themselves back to DSA test standard. This is only a recommendation of training time and a full assessment report is sent to the customer.
Training
The training is run over a consecutive amount of days with the DSA test only the final day, we will liaise with the customer to achieve timings suitable to all involved.
Training is usually 4 hours per day, with one 15min break.
We currently run three different training courses:
12hr This course is suitable for those that are of a high standard, and only require refreshing in Road Craft, Reversing and Coupling and Uncoupling.
16hr This course is suitable for those with some experience of driving, but may have picked up a lot of bad habits over time.
20hr This course is suitable for candidates who have had little experience with trailers, and would benefit from all the experience our instructors have.
Driver Refresher & Familiarisation.
With ever changing regulations for vehicle drivers and operators, we have found that continuous training keeps everyone up to date.
We contact the customer to establish what training they require, then together we design a bespoke training package to suit their needs. Typically we are asked to provide the following subjects in the packages:
Daily Maintenance
Coupling and Uncoupling
Loading and Restraint
Reversing
Driving Assessments
We always ensure that each candidate is aware of the current Tachograph Regulations and also Gross Train Weights (GTW).
The above package has also been provided to new caravan owners and owners of trailers who have never had any training in towing.
